Wardogs Set to Launch on Steam Early Access Soon

If you’re into first-person shooters and haven’t checked out Wardogs yet, now’s the perfect time to get informed because it finally has a release date: developer Bulkhead’s latest title is set to hit Steam Early Access on Thursday, September 10, priced at $39.99.

This announcement comes on the heels of a recent closed alpha that ran from August 7-9, which received rave reviews from players online, similar to the previous playtest. FPS content creator TheTacticalBrit believes it has the potential to be “incredibly successful,” highlighting its “wow moments” in a “pick-up-and-play” style that sets it apart from more realism-focused shooters.

Another creator, GhostGamingGG, claims that piloting helicopters in Wardogs “absolutely destroys Battlefield 6’s air mechanics.” Meanwhile, Melandryu described the weekend as “one of the best experiences” they’ve had with a beta in “many, many years” (though it was technically an alpha, the sentiment remains).

If you pre-order Wardogs, you’ll gain access to an upcoming closed beta weekend scheduled for August 21-23. According to a press release, “the beta will give players the opportunity to experience the game ahead of its early access launch and put its large-scale warfare, servers, and core systems through their paces.”

Wardogs aims to carve out a niche between more casual FPS games like Call of Duty and Battlefield and the hardcore realism of titles like Squad and Escape From Tarkov. Developed by Bulkhead, known for Battalion 1944, it seeks to offer a fresh take on the genre.

One unique feature allows you to become an arms dealer by selling weapons to your teammates. In-game currency plays a significant role in Wardogs, enabling you to essentially run a business. In a conversation with Wardogs’ CEO, Joe Brammer, he described this FPS as one for “dad gamers,” emphasizing that every action you take in-game, whether you’re racking up kills or not, contributes to the team’s success. The game also features permanent progression, where you earn XP through your actions, reminiscent of systems in games like RuneScape.

So, the wait is almost over for everyone to dive in… although Wardogs will face stiff competition from a slew of other titles launching in September, all while trying to escape the shadow of GTA 6.

“Cash is the best anticheat.”
