Luke Skywalker and Captain America Team Up in Epic Star Wars-Marvel Crossover

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of both Star Wars and Marvel, with a bright future ahead.

As Star Wars approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027, Lucasfilm is gearing up to celebrate with a wealth of new stories from across the galaxy. Some of the most intriguing concepts are emerging from unexpected sources: the standout tale from Star Wars: Visions, The Ninth Jedi, is redefining the Jedi legacy, while Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter promises a thrilling return to space combat reminiscent of Top Gun: Maverick.

Meanwhile, Marvel is preparing for some monumental events. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed $1 billion at the box office, and all eyes are now on Avengers: Doomsday, where Doctor Doom seems poised to fulfill the movie’s ominous title. For those eager for more, Marvel is already delving into the multiverse implications of Doom’s actions.

So, what’s next for these two powerhouse franchises? It turns out, they’re bringing Luke Skywalker and Captain America together.

Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm are collaborating on Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, marking the first official crossover between these iconic universes.

Initially revealed by an outlet, Hope Assembles is a five-issue limited series penned by Kevin Smith, featuring artwork from David Marquez, known for his work on Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man and Uncanny X-Men. The first issue is set to drop in January 2027.

This isn’t just another Star Wars comic from Marvel; Hope Assembles will integrate the beloved A New Hope-era characters into Earth-616, Marvel’s main continuity, where they’ll interact with some of the most prominent heroes and villains. Expect to see Luke Skywalker sharing a page with Captain America, Han Solo and Chewbacca crossing paths with Wolverine and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Princess Leia teaming up with Black Widow and Black Panther. Obi-Wan Kenobi will encounter an unusual welcoming party featuring Deadpool, Daredevil, Hawkeye, and the Human Torch.

The villains are getting in on the action too. Early artwork showcases Darth Vader alongside Doctor Doom, Thanos, and Ultron—a lineup of formidable characters unlikely to collaborate smoothly.

So, how do you merge the Death Star with the Daily Bugle? The official project description states: “Hope Assembles will anchor the Star Wars franchise firmly in Marvel’s 616 universe as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes witness the events of A New Hope unfold on Earth before their very eyes after a reality-shattering spell.”

Kevin Smith has long envisioned this crossover. The Clerks filmmaker and seasoned comic writer shared that he subscribed to Marvel’s Star Wars comics in the early 1980s, always hoping to see Spider-Man or Doctor Doom join the adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han.

“With Hope Assembles, Kevin Smith has crafted a genuine love letter to Star Wars, Marvel, and comics as a whole,” said Michael Siglain, creative director at Lucasfilm Publishing. “Combined with David Marquez’s stunning art, we’ll witness the heroes and villains of Star Wars teaming up and clashing with those of Earth-616. Hope Assembles is thrilling, unpredictable, and heartfelt. In short, it’s comics at their finest, and we can’t wait for fans to experience both franchises like never before.”

The timing of Hope Assembles adds to its significance, launching in January 2027, the same year A New Hope celebrates its 50th anniversary, and continuing monthly until its fifth and final issue in May.

After half a century of Star Wars, there aren’t many franchise firsts left, but Chewbacca meeting Wolverine is definitely one of them.
