Switch 2’s Oblivion Remaster Surprises Players, Sparking Fan Frustration
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 is performing quite well and looks impressive on Nintendo’s latest console. While many fans are thrilled about this, some are frustrated that this new port appears to be better optimized than versions on other platforms. Bethesda has taken note of this feedback and is promising additional updates for Oblivion Remastered.
On August 11, Bethesda launched Oblivion Remastered, the Unreal Engine 5-enhanced version of the beloved open-world RPG, on Switch 2. The remaster had a successful run last year on PS5, Xbox, and PC, becoming one of the top-selling games despite being a reimagining of a title from 2006.
However, the initial release was plagued with issues, including numerous bugs, crashes, and performance hiccups. The game also suffered from a blurry appearance on the Series S. Even after two patches, Oblivion Remastered remains problematic on those platforms, leading to fan frustration over the lack of updates since July 2025, as highlighted by reports.
When the Switch 2 version launched, many players were dismayed to see it running smoothly on hardware that isn’t particularly powerful, especially since it seemed to have received optimizations that other platforms still lack after a year.
That said, the Switch 2 port isn’t without its flaws. It has its own frame-pacing issues and bugs. However, thanks to optimizations in draw distances and detail, it generally runs more stably. The use of Nvidia silicon on the Switch 2 allows Oblivion Remastered to utilize DLSS upscaling technology, resulting in a sharper image compared to the Series S version. Unfortunately, DLSS can’t be implemented on the other console versions since they use AMD hardware. Fans are eager for the other optimizations to be included in a long-awaited third patch for Oblivion, and it seems that may be on the horizon.
“We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered,” Bethesda announced via Twitter on August 12. “The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms, and we will share more when we are able.”
Another issue players are voicing concerns about is the availability of the game. The physical edition of Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 has received positive feedback, as the cartridge includes the full game. However, it appears Bethesda underestimated demand, with many reporting that stores are completely sold out. Even major retailers are currently out of stock. The company has assured fans on Twitter that more copies will be arriving at retailers later this month.
Hopefully, by that time, a patch will be available for all platforms to address ongoing issues and enhance the remaster experience.
