Resident Evil’s Avengers Assemble in a New Manga Adaptation

In 2023, the iconic characters from the Resident Evil series—Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers—teamed up to tackle a mysterious bioterror outbreak on Alcatraz Island. This epic crossover for Capcom’s survival horror franchise unfolds in Resident Evil: Death Island, an animated film produced by Capcom, Quebico, and TMS Entertainment.

Resident Evil: Death Island marks the fourth installment in the animated film series and is set to be adapted into manga format with the upcoming release of Titan Manga’s Resident Evil: Death Island Vol. 1. This “biopunk horror manga” aims to deepen the Resident Evil universe with intense encounters, explosive action, and character-driven narratives.

The manga adaptation offers a chilling continuation of the Resident Evil saga, immersing readers in the dark atmosphere of Alcatraz. Here, Chris, Leon, Jill, Claire, and Rebecca face a terrifying bioterror outbreak that transforms the island into a nightmarish battleground.

Illustrated by ZINO, also known as Zino Kodakujii or Zi Nuo Ye, who has previously contributed to Phantom Blade and Unity of Heaven, the manga was initially serialized on Kadokawa’s Comic Hu platform. The localized edition is set to hit shelves on September 29, featuring 224 pages of black-and-white artwork priced at $12.99.

For those who haven’t seen the CG movie version of Resident Evil: Death Island, it’s available for digital purchase as well as on DVD and Blu-ray. The film’s synopsis reveals that in San Francisco, Jill is grappling with a zombie outbreak and a new T-Virus, while Leon pursues a kidnapped DARPA scientist, and Claire investigates a monstrous fish threatening the local whale population. As they follow the clues from their individual cases, they converge on Alcatraz Island, where a new evil awaits.

Looking ahead, the Resident Evil franchise is set to release a new live-action film directed by Zach Cregger, hitting theaters on September 18. Additionally, a remake of the Dreamcast classic Resident Evil: Code Veronica is in development, slated for release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in 2027.
