Ghost of Yotei Expansion Set for Fall Release, Introducing New Story Missions and Roguelike Mode
The PS5-exclusive open-world samurai simulator, Ghost of Yōtei, is set to receive an exciting expansion that introduces a new location and a survival mode. Additionally, a free update will roll out, bringing in some highly requested quality-of-life enhancements and a new screensaver mode.
On August 12, it was revealed that Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, a paid expansion, will launch on October 1. For those who already own the game, the expansion will be available for $15. A new $70 version, Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, will also be released, bundling the original game, all deluxe edition content, and the upcoming expansion.
Sucker Punch describes Echoes of Sekigahara as a narrative adventure that weaves between the past and present of the game’s storyline. Players will take on the role of Atsu in the present, exploring a new “unseen valley” where a dangerous gang known as the Vipers lurks. Flashbacks will allow players to experience Atsu’s involvement in the Battle of Sekigahara, highlighting a pivotal moment in her life before she embarked on her quest for vengeance. The expansion promises new weapons, armor, cosmetic options, and more.
Echoes of Sekigahara will also feature a single-player combat survival mode, which Sucker Punch refers to as their “spin on a roguelike.” In this mode, players will accept bounties to initiate new runs, taking down enemies to earn perks and unlock new playable characters. More details about the expansion’s content are expected to be shared soon.
All owners of Ghost of Yōtei, including those who opt not to purchase the expansion, will receive a free update on October 1. This update will introduce a new “Beauty of Yōtei” mode, transforming the game into a “screensaver-like” experience for your TV. Players can also look forward to new quality-of-life features, including what appears to be a transmog option for armor sets. While these updates are exciting, it’s a bit disappointing that the game’s fantastic online mode isn’t receiving a significant expansion in this October update.
“Thank you again to everyone for an amazing year since Ghost of Yōtei launched,” Sucker Punch expressed. “We’ll have more to share about Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara as we approach the October 1 launch, so stay tuned to our social media channels!”
