Attention Overwatch Players: Change This Setting Now!

I’ve been a dedicated Lifeweaver support main for years. Even when the character was considered one of the weakest at launch in 2023, I stood by him, healing teammates with his plants and launching spiky thorns at enemies. The standout feature of his kit is Life Grip, which lets him pull a teammate toward him, ideally to safety. I’ve saved tanks from charging into certain doom, thwarted countless Jetpack Cat ultimates by yanking her victims from her grasp, and rescued my support partners from the clutches of aggressive dive characters. After thousands of uses, I’ve learned that those who complain about being Life-Gripped out of a tough spot often can’t be trusted to opt out of the ability. Yet, in Season 4, the developers have given everyone that choice.

In the latest patch for Season 4, Lifeweaver’s Life Grip has been adjusted to allow players being pulled to jump out of his grasp. The ability now pulls teammates more slowly, and if you’re farther away when it’s activated, the pull starts even slower and gains speed over time. This change aims to give players who prefer not to be pulled a chance to cancel the ability and stay put. However, I’ve noticed that those who dislike the viney tether often need it the most. I’ve lost count of how many times a Reinhardt has been frustrated with me for pulling him out of a Tank 1v1 because he wasn’t paying attention to his health bar and was just one hit away from death. Mapping the cancel to the jump button also seems like a misstep, as it’s easy to instinctively jump when in a tight spot, leading even those who don’t want to cancel to do so accidentally.

Fortunately, for all my reckless teammates who tend to feed and for the cooperative players who know that after years of reliable Lifeweavers saving them, canceling Life Grip could be a grave mistake, there’s an option to disable this feature. So, fire up Overwatch with me and embrace Life Grip once again. Head to Options, navigate to the Hero menu, and look for the new toggle labeled “Enable Life Grip cancel controls.” Turn it off. Trust me, I know what I’m doing, and I pulled you for a reason.
