Kingdom Hearts fans have a single chance to catch Square Enix’s major D23 presentation.

It’s been two months since the unexpected reveal of a new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer during a Nintendo Direct livestream, and fans have fresh reasons to be excited for upcoming news.

Disney is gearing up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts in 2027, with festivities kicking off this weekend at a special panel during Disney’s D23 fan expo. This event will feature key developers and voice actors from the franchise, and it will be available for live viewing on YouTube, but only for those who catch it in real-time, according to Square Enix.

The “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts” panel is set to stream on the official Kingdom Hearts YouTube channel on Saturday, August 15, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. EDT. Square Enix has stated that the livestream will not be available for replay afterward, which is a curious decision given YouTube’s capabilities for archiving streams.

This hour-long presentation will include Nana Gadd from Disney and Pixar Games, along with Square Enix developer Tai Yasue. Longtime English voice actors for Sora and Riku, Haley Joel Osment and David Gallagher, will also make appearances, alongside Disney Character Voices executive Renée Johnson.

“Join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of Kingdom Hearts,” reads Disney’s official description. “Discover how this saga united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and more behind the magic.”

While the panel is officially described as a “behind-the-scenes look at the making of the games,” Yasue’s involvement has sparked speculation among fans about the possibility of new information regarding Kingdom Hearts 4. After all, celebrating 25 years of Kingdom Hearts naturally includes discussions about the series’ past and future. However, neither Disney nor Square Enix has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be featured during the panel.

Kingdom Hearts 4 was first unveiled in 2022 during a 20th anniversary panel, but updates have been sparse until the new trailer dropped in June 2026.

The D23 anniversary panel seems like a fitting opportunity for Square Enix to share more, even if it’s just behind-the-scenes insights rather than a new gameplay preview. Still, a fresh English-language trailer with a release date announcement would certainly be a thrilling way to wrap up the hour. The June announcement did confirm a multiplatform release across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Could this hint at an imminent launch?

Disney is promising that the Deep Dive livestream will “surprise and delight” Kingdom Hearts fans. This could mean news about the next game, new insights into the franchise’s history, or simply a chance to hear Sora and Riku’s voice actors reflect on 25 years of friendship, rivalry, and the intricate lore involving Darkness, Nobodies, and a plethora of characters with X in their names. Whatever unfolds, fans will need to tune in live to catch it all.
