Pokémon Go Offers Perfect Mewtwo as a Reward for Time Square Event Fallout

In July, the Pokémon Go community was stirred up when Scopely launched the game’s 10th anniversary celebration with an exclusive event in Times Square, New York City. This invite-only gathering featured a Mewtwo boasting perfect stats and a unique background, reminiscent of the game’s 2016 announcement trailer. Unfortunately, the event was limited to influencers, content creators, and media, leading some attendees to list their special Mewtwo variants on eBay for prices ranging from $500 to $5,000.

To make amends, Scopely is now offering all players a chance to snag their own perfect Mewtwo with a special anniversary background. During the global Pokémon Go Fest on July 11-12, players could catch Mewtwo in raids, but obtaining a perfect stat version—often referred to as a hundo—has been quite the challenge. While participating in more raids can improve your odds, it often requires buying additional passes. Now, players can simply complete a straightforward timed research task: catch 10 Pokémon and power up a Pokémon 10 times to claim their hundo Mewtwo with the anniversary background. The Go Fest wraps up on September 6 with a Mega Finale, providing even more chances to catch Mewtwo with that special look.

To sweeten the deal, this hundo Mewtwo will come with the third Mega Level unlocked, allowing it to evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y—the very version that event attendees battled and captured. Additionally, trainers will receive a Master Ball, which guarantees a catch on any Pokémon with a single throw.

Scopely has also indicated that the Mewtwo featuring the Times Square background will be available again in the future, likely during another Go Fest event. Players who attended the Times Square event will receive a Mewtwo with different stats.
