An Unexpected Overwatch Character Aims to Claim Roadhog’s Whole Hog
Overwatch has expanded to include 53 heroes, each with their own unique dynamics and interactions. While true canonical pairings are somewhat rare, many heroes engage in playful banter before matches. Season 4 not only introduced a new hero, D.Mon, but also brought some unexpected flirtation between the tank Roadhog and the archeologist Venture.
Roadhog, a veteran of the game since its launch in 2016, has a new interaction with the relatively fresh face, Venture, who has no clear connection to the Australian junker. In a pre-match exchange, Venture stumbles over their words, clearly impressed by Roadhog’s imposing stature. Instead of a straightforward compliment, they simply acknowledge his height, which elicits a brief “uh huh” from Roadhog. Venture bursts into laughter, calling him “funny, too,” while Roadhog remains his usual stoic self, suggesting that Venture might find that appealing.
While this playful banter likely won’t lead to any significant story developments—similar to how Lifeweaver and Baptiste flirted without ever crossing paths in the lore—Venture’s voice actor, Valeria Rodriguez, hinted that they were aware of Venture’s crush long before it appeared in the game.
Rodriguez teased that they had some insider knowledge and even created fan art related to it, though they couldn’t share specifics due to an NDA.
Roadhog’s voice actor, Josh Petersdorf, also chimed in on social media, humorously noting that he’d be on the lookout for shovels for Valentine’s Day after fans reacted to the new interaction.
Throughout the years, Roadhog has maintained a reputation for being a man of few words, though other characters have occasionally poked fun at his relationships. For instance, Lifeweaver once asked if he and Junkrat were a couple, to which Junkrat enthusiastically replied, “Yes! A couple of dashing rogues!” If Roadhog ever feels like taking a break from his partner in crime, it seems Venture could use a hand with their next dig.
