Kingdom Hearts 4 Set for 2027 Launch, Introducing an Exciting New Pixar World

Kingdom Hearts enthusiasts received some exciting updates at D23 on Friday. Disney and Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, featuring a vibrant world inspired by Pixar’s Coco.

The 90-second trailer highlights Coco’s main characters, Miguel and Hector, depicted true to their film appearances, alongside Sora, who sports Día de Muertos face paint. As Miguel performs during the festivities, Sora battles Heartless Shadows with his keyblade. Fans also get a glimpse of Sora’s Coco-themed keyblade, a colorful creation adorned with guitars, sugar skulls, bones, and marigolds. The trailer showcases Sora, Miguel, and Hector joining forces in combat.

Additionally, the D23 2026 trailer offers a peek at Sora and his friends back in the real-world setting of Quadratum, where a massive Heartless threatens the city. There are also snippets featuring Mickey Mouse, a chat between Goofy and Hades, and ghostly versions of Goofy and Donald Duck.

The most significant announcement is that Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to launch in “late 2027.” The game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and Xbox Series X.

Alongside the Coco world in Kingdom Hearts 4, Disney and Square Enix revealed that a new Kingdom Hearts anime series is in the works for Disney Plus and the Disney Channel. Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix are involved in this project, which aims to “reimagine the iconic adventure with a brand-new story that will expand on the Kingdom Hearts universe while celebrating the beloved characters that have captured the hearts of millions.”

No release details for the anime series have been disclosed.

After four long years, fans finally have a fresh look at KH4 gameplay.
