First VisionQuest Trailer Unveiled at D23, Promising an Unusual Experience
Marvel Studios’ VisionQuest, the finale of the trilogy that kicked off with WandaVision, offered a sneak peek at D23 on Friday, showcasing what Paul Bettany’s Vision has been up to since his escape from Westview. The first trailer reveals that Vision, much like his partner Wanda Maximoff, is navigating some serious challenges.
In this initial look at VisionQuest, it’s clear that we’ll see less of the robotic Vision and more of his human side. While there are brief appearances of his superhuman robotic form, many of the consciousnesses in VisionQuest manifest as human avatars. This includes James Spader’s Ultron, who appears just like… well, James Spader.
Overall, VisionQuest looks like a blast, and it promises to be just as bizarre, if not more so, than WandaVision. Similar to the journeys of Wanda and Agatha in their respective Marvel shows, Vision is wrestling with the complexities of his existence and the nature of his potential offspring.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Vision, rebooted and on the run from those who aimed to exploit him, has been living in hiding. In search of new purpose, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the notorious Ultron. His quiet life is disrupted when a bounty is placed on his head, forcing him to flee alongside Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s reincarnated son. As Vision dodges capture, he must confront his identity, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the mystery surrounding his young companion to survive.
Joining Bettany in VisionQuest is a mix of new and returning characters, including James Spader reprising his role as the villainous Ultron (and a cheeky middle-aged version of that character). Ruaridh Mollica returns as Tommy Maximoff (aka Thomas Shepherd/Speed), and Faran Tahir is back as Raza from the original Iron Man film. They’ll be joined by Todd Stashwick as the bounty hunter Paladin, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Emily Hampshire as EDITH, Orla Brady as FRIDAY, Henry Lewis as DUM-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, and James D’Arcy as JARVIS.
VisionQuest is set to premiere on Disney Plus on October 14, wrapping up the narrative that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024.
Watching both the movie and the show together enhances the overall experience of the story.
