Players in Marvel Rivals find sneaky method to exit matches without facing penalties.
Marvel Rivals’ ranked mode has taken a turn for the worse, thanks to a surge in cheating. Players have found a way to exit matches without facing any penalties. “People are intentionally abusing the cheating detection system to cancel games with no consequence when they are losing,” LytePK shared on X. “This has happened to me 5X on stream today alone.”
The method involves players editing Marvel Rivals’ config files mid-match, which the game flags as cheating, resulting in an abrupt match termination. They briefly exit the game, then return after relocating the modified config file to a different folder. Unfortunately, it seems these cheaters are currently escaping any repercussions, making it a convenient way to dodge losing ranked points when they’re on the losing end.
Editing config files has become somewhat common for mostly harmless reasons, as it allows players to tweak performance issues on PC by adjusting settings not available in the game’s menus. However, some have taken it further by altering these files to eliminate certain visual effects, like fog, for a competitive edge, or disabling “mouse smoothing” for more precise control.
A few months back, a warning message was introduced for those modifying config files, but enforcement through bans appears to be lacking. This new exploit to end matches without consequences may push for stricter measures against players who edit these files. Ideally, the developers will strike a balance, ensuring that players can’t exit matches without penalty while also providing more in-game options to assist those facing performance issues or odd gameplay defaults.
Marvel Rivals has recently launched Season 9.5, featuring The Hood, a tank character armed with guns. The game has seen regular updates with new characters almost every month, keeping the experience fresh, albeit often unbalanced.
Whether it’s EOMM, SBMM, or another system, players are pushing back against the matchmaking mechanics that influence their gameplay.
