A New Comic Spotlighting the Key Character from Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the Way
After months of anticipation surrounding the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans can finally celebrate the confirmation that Sadie Sink will portray Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While some moviegoers kept the news under wraps to avoid spoilers, Marvel officially introduced Sink and the rest of the new X-Men cast during the D23 expo. Riding the wave of excitement, Marvel Comics has announced a new limited series featuring Jean Grey set to launch before the year wraps up.
The five-issue series, aptly named Jean Grey, will be penned by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Rogê Antônio. MacKay has been at the helm of the main X-Men title since the 2024 From the Ashes relaunch, marking the beginning of the post-Krakoa era. Antônio, known for his work on this year’s limited Cyclops series, also contributed to the Jean Grey-led X-Men Red series by Tom Taylor. Fans can expect the first issue to hit shelves on Nov. 25, 2026, following the major DNX event.
It hasn’t been long since Jean had her own comic series. At the start of the From the Ashes relaunch, Stephanie Phillips wrote the ongoing Phoenix series for fifteen issues, showcasing Jean’s cosmic adventures and her efforts to assist those in need. This series also reintroduced Jean’s sister, Sara Grey, who plays a pivotal role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Recently, Jean made her return to Earth in this year’s X-Men Annual #1. In a conversation, MacKay mentioned that post-DNX, “we’re going to see the X-Men in a position to need Jean Grey — and Jean Grey in a position to need the X-Men. Dovetailing that into this moment being one where Jean is in the public consciousness more than she has previously just worked.”
MacKay hinted that the dynamic between Jean and Scott will be a central theme of the series. Although the couple has been married for some time, Jean’s cosmic journeys have kept them apart. “We’re going to see the differences in her philosophy and Scott’s,” he explained. “Scott builds fortresses, because that’s who he is, but Jean builds bridges, because that’s who she is.” Alongside her limited series, Jean will also have a more prominent role in MacKay’s ongoing X-Men series, where she will team up with Cyclops, the current leader of the group.
Jean Grey will debut on Nov. 25.
A new X-Men movie is on the horizon, signaling the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
