Castlevania’s Unusual Multiplayer Spin-off Set to Vanish for Good
Another mobile game is set to fade away. Konami has revealed that it will be removing Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls from Apple Arcade before the service shuts down shortly after. Once the servers go offline, Grimoire of Souls will be entirely unplayable.
The announcement was made on the official Grimoire of Souls site. “Since its launch on Apple Arcade in September 2021, the game has enjoyed support from many players,” Konami stated, “However, we have decided to terminate the service on September 3, 2026.” The message also expressed gratitude to players for their enthusiastic backing over the years.
Before the service ends, Grimoire of Souls will be delisted from Apple Arcade on August 20. That’s just around the corner, so make sure to download it soon if you want to give it a shot. You’ll have two weeks to play before the final shutdown. The game’s premise revolves around evil escaping from books detailing the history of Dracula and his castle. Players navigate these books through compact levels that feature iconic characters from the series. The gameplay is reminiscent of classic 2D Castlevania titles, enhanced with cooperative and multiplayer modes. As an Apple Arcade offering, it’s free from in-app purchases, making it a refreshing choice in an era dominated by gacha mechanics and live-service games filled with microtransactions.
It would be great if Konami could take inspiration from other developers and find a way to repackage Grimoire of Souls into a single-player experience for modern platforms. The game captures the essence of a traditional Castlevania title, even without the unique co-op and multiplayer features. It would be a real loss if Grimoire of Souls were to vanish completely. Meanwhile, Konami is gearing up to revive the Castlevania franchise with the upcoming release of Belmont’s Curse. This will mark the first new entry in the series in over a decade, set to launch on October 15.
Nintendo players won’t miss out on the excitement either.
