A beloved Clone Wars character makes a quick appearance in the latest Star Wars game trailer.

Star Wars Zero Company is the highly anticipated new video game set in a galaxy far, far away, launching next week. On Monday, a final trailer was unveiled, showcasing both cinematic moments and gameplay reminiscent of XCOM. Fans were particularly thrilled to see the return of a beloved character.

Around the 1:45 mark in the trailer, Captain Rex makes a brief but exciting appearance, donning his iconic helmet and armor. This fleeting moment was enough to ignite excitement among Star Wars enthusiasts, with one enthusiastic comment exclaiming, “REX! MY BROTHER! MY BOY! MY LAD!”

Captain Rex first appeared in the 2008 film The Clone Wars, later becoming a key figure in the animated series, where he served alongside Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano. He has remained a prominent character in various Star Wars media related to that pivotal conflict, featuring in later series like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

As with all clone troopers in the animated series, Rex has been voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. While it was confirmed last month that Baker would be part of Zero Company, he was initially announced to voice a different clone, Trick. This leaves Rex’s role in the game somewhat uncertain, as well as whether Baker will voice any other surprise clones. Anakin will also make an appearance in Star Wars Zero Company, but details about his involvement remain unclear. The game primarily follows a group of misfits working covertly with the Galactic Republic.

Described as “Star Wars XCOM,” Zero Company lives up to that label after 10 hours of gameplay. It’s being hailed as potentially the best iteration of XCOM-style squad-based tactics yet. You won’t have to wait long to experience it yourself: Star Wars Zero Company is set to release on August 27 for $49.99 on Windows PC and $59.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

21 years ago, the best standalone Star Wars game dove headfirst into the Clone Wars.
