Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider Set for Release Date in the MCU
Marvel’s future beyond Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars is starting to take shape. Recently, it was confirmed that Ryan Gosling will take on the role of Ghost Rider in a solo film set for 2028. However, unlike Black Panther 3, the exact release date was initially left unclear.
Now, Marvel has announced that Ghost Rider will hit theaters on July 28, 2028. This date falls on the last Friday of July, a prime slot that has historically been successful for Marvel’s major releases.
Ghost Rider will be the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to debut after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set for December 2027. The events of Doomsday and Secret Wars are anticipated to significantly alter the MCU landscape, although Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has not labeled it a complete reboot.
Kicking off Marvel’s 2028 lineup will be the eagerly awaited X-Men reboot, with several mutants confirmed at a recent fan event. Kit Connor will portray Cyclops, Samara Weaving takes on Emma Frost, and Inde Navarette will play Rogue. X-Men is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
Following that, Ghost Rider will arrive in July, directed by Shawn Levy, who is also helming Gosling’s Star Wars project, Star Wars: Starfighter. Details about the film remain sparse, including which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will embody. The character has seen various iterations in Marvel Comics, with Johnny Blaze being the most recognized, previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage. The MCU has already introduced a version of Ghost Rider through Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna in the TV series Agents of SHIELD.
In the past three Julys, Marvel has released some of its biggest hits. Deadpool & Wolverine dominated July 2024, The Fantastic Four: First Steps launched Phase 6 in 2025, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day shattered box office records last month.
The final Marvel Studios film for 2028, for now, is Black Panther 3, set for December 15, 2028. It will feature David Jonsson as T’Challa’s son, who was introduced as a child in Black Panther 2. Expect to see Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Winston Duke’s M’Baku return, both of whom will also appear in December’s Doomsday.
Additionally, Marvel has an untitled film lined up for November 9, 2029. Speculation is rampant about what this could be—could it be the long-awaited Nova movie, a sequel to Shang-Chi, or perhaps even a solo film for Paste-Pot Pete? Probably not that last one.
And seriously, where is Beast?
