Kingdom Hearts Soars to Steam’s Bestseller List Following D23 Announcement and Major Discount

The Kingdom Hearts franchise has a development cycle as unpredictable as the tides of Destiny Islands, leading to a fanbase that experiences waves of obsession. I’ve been a dedicated fan since the series kicked off, but there are times when I go months or even years without thinking about Sora, Riku, and their companions. However, a stunning new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 unveiled at D23 has reignited interest, sending the first six games soaring up the Steam charts.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX climbed to No. 3 on Steam’s U.S. Top Sellers list, just behind the upcoming Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 and the free-to-play Counter-Strike 2. The collection is performing impressively, nearing its original launch numbers with over 9,600 concurrent players in the last 24 hours, according to SteamDB.

Additionally, a massive 70% discount on the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece collection was introduced last week, allowing PC gamers to snag the entire main saga for just $29.99. This discount applies to individual games and bundles in the series, but it’s only available until August 20.

During the Kingdom Hearts Deep Dive panel at D23, a four-minute trailer for KH4 was showcased, which likely contributed to the surge in excitement. The trailer confirmed a late 2027 release window and introduced a new world inspired by Pixar’s Coco. For the first time in a mainline game, Donald and Goofy will be playable characters, while King Mickey will feature in storybook sequences reminiscent of Paper Mario. The game is set to launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X.

D23 also revealed that an anime adaptation of Kingdom Hearts is in the works for Disney Channel and Disney Plus. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura is involved, but it remains unclear whether the anime will retell the intricately woven story of the games or present something entirely new. The initial logo and artwork show a character resembling Sora, clad in furred clothing and wielding the Kingdom Key—could this be a Keyblade wielder from a bygone era?

With Kingdom Hearts 4 on the horizon, gamers have plenty of reasons to dive back into the series and catch up before its release next year. However, potential Keyblade wielders have less than 48 hours to take advantage of this significant discount before it vanishes into the Darkness.

We learned a lot more about Kingdom Hearts 4 during its D23 panel.
