Control Resonant Achieves Gold Status, But Physical Launch Postponed
Remedy Entertainment has revealed that Control Resonant has officially gone gold, signaling that development on the hack-and-slash sequel to 2019’s Control is nearly wrapped up ahead of its September 24 launch. However, there’s a bit of a hiccup: the physical edition has been delayed.
The announcement came via an official post on social media, featuring a celebratory image of the development team. While the post shared the exciting news about Resonant going gold and reminded players of the upcoming release date, it also delivered the disappointing update that the physical version will now arrive on October 15. Remedy explained that they needed “just a little more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured — nothing stays contained forever.” A three-week delay isn’t the worst news, but fans eager for the physical edition might be frustrated that they won’t be able to jump into Resonant’s reimagined Manhattan on launch day.
Set in the same universe as the original Control, Resonant introduces several changes to the gameplay formula. Players will step into the shoes of Dylan Faden as he navigates a supernaturally altered Manhattan. Unlike Control’s focus on third-person shooting, Resonant leans into hack-and-slash mechanics with an emphasis on melee combat. While not strictly an open-world title, the game features expansive zones designed to encourage exploration and player freedom.
Given the larger scope of Resonant, it’s expected to take significantly longer to complete than its predecessor. Control’s main story typically takes around 12 hours, but Remedy estimates that the sequel will clock in at over 30 hours. Fans can look forward to a unique experience with Resonant, even if it marks a shift in direction for the studio. There’s also plenty of anticipation around how the game ties into the broader Remedy Universe and whether any familiar faces from Alan Wake will make an appearance.
Control Resonant is set to launch on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
