New Gameplay Reveals Stunning Visuals for Elden Ring on Switch 2

2023’s Game of the Year, Elden Ring, is finally set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this month after a significant delay. The Tarnished Edition of FromSoftware’s acclaimed open-world action RPG was initially scheduled for a 2025 release, but following multiple reports of performance issues on the Switch 2, the developers were given extra time to refine the port.

Fortunately, the gameplay footage and new videos showcasing Elden Ring running in handheld mode on the Switch 2 suggest that the Tarnished Edition is shaping up nicely.

A recent gameplay showcase video provides a brief overview of what Elden Ring is all about, along with insights into its performance on Nintendo’s handheld. For those already familiar with Elden Ring, there isn’t much new information; the video doesn’t delve deeply into the new prebuilt starting classes. However, for Switch 2 players experiencing Elden Ring for the first time, it offers a clear look at what the game has to offer, including cooperative multiplayer and the challenging Soulslike experience on the go.

In addition to the official gameplay footage of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, there are also new off-screen gameplay videos demonstrating both docked and handheld modes. A source has shared nine minutes of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition in action on the Switch 2, showcasing what seems to be a very playable version of the game.

The arrival of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has been highly anticipated. The Switch 2 port was first announced in April 2025 during a major showcase for the new console, alongside other notable titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, and Hitman World of Assassination.

Initially, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was set for a 2025 release, but after a less-than-stellar presentation at last summer’s Gamescom, the developers decided to push the launch to 2026. Recent demonstrations of the Switch 2 port have been more encouraging, indicating that the team has successfully optimized the open-world fantasy RPG for Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Elden Ring is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The Switch 2 version is scheduled to release on August 28, with the Tarnished Edition bonus content available on other platforms as paid DLC.
