Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary Collection Features Ultra-Rare Cards

For the past couple of months, fans have been buzzing with theories about The Pokémon Company possibly holding back details on the new chromatic cards set to launch with the 30th anniversary collection. Rumors of a monochromatic Mew card have circulated, but no one could confirm their authenticity—until now. It turns out these elusive 30th anniversary cards are incredibly rare.

Currently, we’ve spotted three color variants of the Mew chase card in this set: red, blue, and green. Each card features the letters “RGB,” likely referencing both the card’s color variant and the original Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green games. While Mewtwo RGB cards have yet to surface, it would be surprising if they were absent, especially since Mewtwo is one of the two Pokémon in the new Future Rare category.

Initially, there was skepticism about the legitimacy of these cards. With the set still months from release and few players reporting pulls, doubts lingered. However, as more images have emerged from a broader range of sources, it’s become evident that these uniquely textured cards are indeed real. As of August 19, we’ve gained insight into why they’re so hard to find in the early packs.

A Pokémon influencer known as The Card Science claims to have spoken with an insider at the Millennium Print Group, the company responsible for producing the official trading card game. This insider, who provided a badge for verification, revealed that the cards are under strict surveillance to maintain the element of surprise. According to this source, the RGB cards will appear in just one out of every 20,000 packs.

To put that into perspective, recent sets have seen the odds of pulling a golden Mega Hyper Rare card at less than one percent, specifically about one in 1,260 packs. If the insider’s information holds true, the upcoming RGB cards will be the rarest cards available in purchasable packs.

Of course, there are Pokémon cards that are already known to be rarer than these RGB cards. For instance, only around 40 Pikachu illustrator cards exist worldwide, fetching millions on the market. Given the high production run for the 30th anniversary, RGB Mew cards will likely be more common, even with such low odds. However, in terms of cards that the average player can realistically obtain outside of promotions or special events, RGB cards are as rare as it gets.

The artwork for Mew and Mewtwo carries a specific artistic significance that many Pokémon fans might not fully appreciate.
