Avengers: Doomsday Actor Hints at Major Doctor Doom Reveal
With Avengers: Doomsday just around the corner, excitement is building for this superhero epic. After a series of five teaser trailers and a recent sneak peek showcasing Doctor Doom’s formidable power, the anticipation for the next Avengers installment is palpable.
One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Doom since Marvel announced Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU in 2024—this time as the villain Victor Von Doom rather than Tony Stark/Iron Man—has been how the film will handle the connection to Tony. Will Victor be an alternate universe version of Tony? Will the MCU heroes recognize the striking resemblance? One actor’s comments may shed some light on this.
Potential spoilers ahead for Avengers: Doomsday.
David Harbour, known for his role as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, recently shared some intriguing insights during an interview. When asked to reveal a line from the upcoming Avengers film, he playfully responded (in character), “You… are Tony Stark.”
It’s unclear if Harbour is joking or being serious, but his remark suggests that Red Guardian might be the one to confront the obvious connection between the late Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom. This could lead to a twist on the iconic “I am Iron Man” moment. Since Doom hails from an alternate Earth, where the MCU’s Fantastic Four originate, characters like Reed Richards and Sue Storm might not recognize Tony Stark, but the core Avengers certainly would.
So far, we haven’t seen Doom’s version of Doctor Doom without his mask, leaving us in the dark about how Marvel and directors Joe and Anthony Russo will portray the character. If they’re paying Robert Downey Jr. a hefty sum to appear, it seems likely they’d want to showcase his face. But perhaps not.
If the identity of Doom comes as a surprise to most of the Avengers, it could create a powerful moment in Doomsday—one that Harbour may have just hinted at. Given Marvel’s penchant for secrecy, it’s unlikely he would divulge major plot points, especially considering his previous appearances in Black Widow and Thunderbolts, where he would have had to adhere to strict guidelines.
Alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Avengers: Doomsday features a star-studded cast, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and many more familiar faces from the Marvel universe.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, with a direct sequel already in the pipeline for 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
