Take-Two Files Lawsuit Against GTA 6 Leak Suspect
Take-Two Interactive is taking legal action against the individual responsible for leaking gameplay footage of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. Recently, the company filed subpoenas in federal court targeting Microsoft and Discord to gather information about the hacker known as Cyberleek, who has been behind the recent leaks.
Utilizing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Take-Two aims to uncover Cyberleek’s identity through various platforms, including Discord, GitHub, and cloud services like OneDrive and Google. The company believes it has pinpointed several Discord usernames associated with Cyberleek, such as CYBERLEEK and CINEMATICROCKSTAR, along with servers like Ødyssey.gg where the hacker has been active.
Take-Two’s subpoena to Discord requests:
All identifying information linked to user accounts that were members of specific Discord servers and channels from June 1, 2026, to the present. For each account, they seek backend server metadata, original message logs, IP access logs, email addresses, phone numbers, connected accounts, registration timestamps, linked connections (like Google and Xbox), and any device identifiers.
From Microsoft, which owns GitHub and Xbox, the request includes:
All internal records related to Microsoft’s investigation of the “cyberleek” persona that could help identify the associated user(s) or entity/ies. Additionally, they seek identifying information for user accounts that communicated on the specified Discord servers during the same timeframe, along with any telemetry records related to the presence of certain tool/file artifacts. This includes account IDs, registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked connections, device identifiers, and any content related to Grand Theft Auto or Cyberleek from OneDrive accounts.
Both Microsoft and Discord are required to provide the requested information by September 4 at 10 a.m. EDT.
Take-Two has been actively working to eliminate leaks this week. Despite the removal of accounts and videos linked to Cyberleek across various platforms, the hacker has threatened to release more GTA 6 content.
Meanwhile, the GTA community has taken on the role of amateur sleuths, investigating the potential identity of Cyberleek. Their research has uncovered cryptocurrency connections, suggesting the hacker made over $30,000 in trading fees shortly after the initial leaks.
So far, the leaks have included various unofficial gameplay clips showcasing one of the game’s protagonists, Jason, engaging in the classic chaos that defines the Grand Theft Auto series. The hackers claim their actions are motivated by grievances against Rockstar, including the decision to release GTA 6 exclusively in digital format.
Fans can expect an official extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 on August 27, when a long-awaited preview will be unveiled.
GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
