Apple is reducing its workforce for the Vision Pro and Siri projects.

Apple is reportedly downsizing its teams focused on Siri and the Vision Pro, with significant layoffs affecting over 200 positions. This includes a near-complete shutdown of the Vision Pro gaming team and a reduction in the group responsible for creating immersive content for the headset.

In a statement, Apple indicated that these changes are part of an effort to adapt its business to provide the best experiences for users, while also hinting at the creation of new roles. The company has not yet responded to requests for further comments.

Launched in early 2024, the Vision Pro was positioned as Apple’s major venture into “spatial computing,” but the $3,499 headset has not gained significant traction in the market. Reports suggest that Apple is developing a slimmer, lighter version to follow the current model, which received an update last year with an M5 chip. However, there are conflicting reports about the future of an entry-level XR device, as Apple has reportedly paused collaboration with Samsung Display on its display.

In light of the success of Meta’s smart glasses, Apple is also planning to enter this space, with expectations to announce its own smart glasses at WWDC in June 2027, aiming for a launch by the end of that year.

Additionally, Apple introduced a revamped, AI-enhanced version of Siri at this year’s WWDC, which is set to enter public beta later this year.
