Mewgenics’ Xbox Release May Arrive Sooner Than Anticipated, According to Store Leak
Mewgenics made a splash when it debuted on PC earlier this year, and it looks like a console version is on the horizon. An early listing on the Xbox store hinted at a release date, which could be officially announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
On August 23, True Achievements noticed that the Xbox store page for Mewgenics had gone live prematurely, revealing a September 8 release date for Xbox Series X and confirming that the port will feature 53 achievements for players to unlock. Although the release date has since been removed from the store page, it still indicates that a port for Microsoft’s console is on the way.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long for more details. Last week, Mewgenics creator Edmund McMillen hinted at an announcement during Gamescom Opening Night Live related to the popular roguelike. It seems likely that the Xbox port will be showcased there, and it remains to be seen if any additional ports for PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, or new content for Mewgenics, will be revealed.
The game’s quirky humor, reminiscent of early internet culture, helped it stand out in a saturated genre when it launched in February, along with its unique concept of assembling a team of bizarre cats for battle. A review praised Mewgenics for skillfully balancing juvenile and complex themes.
If the release date holds, Mewgenics is set to launch on Xbox Series X on September 8. We’ll get confirmation after Gamescom Opening Night Live airs on August 25.
