Upcoming Marvel Movies and TV Shows Set to Release by 2029
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering a new era of unpredictability. Following a few missteps, including recent titles, Marvel Studios is reassessing its approach to releasing movies and TV shows. While the studio has enjoyed massive successes with films like Deadpool & Wolverine and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it has significantly slowed its release schedule in recent years.
Looking ahead to 2026, Marvel aims to revive its blockbuster franchises with the launch of Avengers: Doomsday. Following that, the only confirmed film for 2027 is Avengers: Secret Wars, which is anticipated to serve as a soft reboot for the MCU.
In 2023, the CEO of Disney outlined a strategy to reduce Marvel Studios’ output while emphasizing quality, a shift that is reflected in the upcoming lineup. Notably, only one Marvel Studios film is set for release in 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars. After that, Marvel plans to explore a mix of sequels, reboots, and new superhero introductions in 2028.
Marvel Studios has announced plans extending through 2029, including a still-unnamed movie. Here’s a rundown of the future Marvel Cinematic Universe films and Disney Plus shows that are currently in the pipeline.
Release date: Oct. 14, on Disney Plus
Marvel is set to give Paul Bettany’s Vision his own spinoff series, focusing on the White Vision who faced off against the original Vision in the finale of WandaVision. Terry Matalas, known for Star Trek: Picard, is the showrunner for this series, which will debut on Disney Plus in October.
Joining Bettany in VisionQuest are James Spader reprising his role as Ultron, Todd Stashwick as the bounty hunter Paladin, and Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff/Thomas Shepherd/Speed, Wanda Maximoff’s son in a new form. Faran Tahir will return as Raza from the original Iron Man. The series will also feature a host of robot and AI characters, including T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Emily Hampshire as EDITH, Orla Brady as FRIDAY, Henry Lewis as DUM-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, and James D’Arcy as JARVIS.
Release date: Dec. 18, in theaters
In 2026, Marvel Studios will revisit its most successful sub-franchise, returning to the strategy that wrapped up Phase 3 with the Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame. Initially announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2022, the film has undergone a significant change and is now titled Avengers: Doomsday. MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. will portray Doctor Doom, with Joe and Anthony Russo returning to direct what they describe as a direct sequel to Endgame.
During a lengthy Marvel Studios livestream, it was revealed that characters from Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and various Fox-era X-Men films will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Teaser trailers have also confirmed the returns of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
Before the release of Avengers: Doomsday in December, Marvel plans to re-release Avengers: Endgame in theaters. This encore run will start on Sept. 25 and will include four minutes of new footage.
Release date: January 2027, on Disney Plus
The second season of the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which follows the adventures of a non-MCU Peter Parker and his alter-ego, Spider-Man, is set to premiere in early 2027.
Release date: June 18, 2027
Sony Pictures Animation’s Miles Morales trilogy will finally conclude in the summer of 2027 with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Fans will discover what happens to Miles after the events of Across the Spider-Verse, where he found himself in an alternate reality where he became the Prowler instead of Spider-Man.
Release date: Dec. 17, 2027
Avengers: Secret Wars will wrap up Phase 6 and conclude what Marvel refers to as the Multiverse Saga, similar to how Avengers: Endgame finished the Infinity Saga. Characters from various Marvel films will return in Secret Wars, with the Russo brothers directing. The title alludes to a cosmic crossover event involving collapsing multiverses, potentially signaling a reboot of the MCU.
Details about the plot of Secret Wars remain under wraps and will depend on the events of Doomsday. Regardless, it promises to be a significant event for the MCU.
Release date: TBA, on Disney Plus
Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again is set to receive a third season, which is expected to begin filming in 2026. If all goes according to plan, this season could arrive as early as 2027, maintaining Marvel’s annual release schedule. Alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones, this season will likely feature other familiar Defenders.
Release date: May 5, 2028
Marvel has been integrating several 20th Century Fox-era X-Men actors into the MCU through multiverse storylines. Iconic characters like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Ian McKellen’s Magneto have made appearances in projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Avengers: Doomsday. However, a new generation of X-Men is on the horizon.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has indicated that the new X-Men will be “a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie,” and the casting announcements so far support this vision. At this year’s D23, Marvel Studios revealed the new X-Men lineup, with more casting news expected ahead of the 2028 reboot. Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier will helm the new X-Men film.
Release date: July 28, 2028
The Spirit of Vengeance is making a comeback in the MCU with a new Ghost Rider movie set for 2028. Ryan Gosling is set to take on the role of Ghost Rider, though details about which version he will portray remain undisclosed. Shawn Levy is directing this project.

At the conclusion of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel teased that “Black Panther will return.” With Denzel Washington’s involvement confirmed for the next Black Panther film and director Ryan Coogler returning for a third installment, this project is now officially in the works. The direction of Black Panther 3 is still uncertain, but the events of the two-part Avengers saga are likely to have a significant influence.
A notable change is that actor David Jonsson will portray the new Black Panther, taking on the role of T’Challa’s son (also named T’Challa) in Coogler’s third journey to Wakanda.
Release date: Nov. 9, 2029
Marvel Studios has an untitled film scheduled for Nov. 9, 2029, but details about this project remain undisclosed. Marvel has hinted at several sequels over the years, including a third Doctor Strange film, a Shang-Chi sequel, and the next chapter for Star-Lord following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. A Fantastic Four sequel may also be on the horizon, but only time will tell what 2029 has in store.
Release date: TBD
Marvel Studios is set to delve into the cosmic side of the MCU with a new film centered on the superhero Nova. Screenwriter Michael Waldron, known for his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is reportedly attached to the project. A previous version of Nova was in development as a Disney Plus series, but that plan was scrapped.
Traditionally, Nova is Richard Rider, a member of the Nova Corps, which has already appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. The Nova Corps serves as an intergalactic police force, with Rider being one of its standout members.
From Harry Styles to White Vision to Hulk’s son, the MCU has left several promises hanging since the Infinity Saga.
