Zillow and Redfin Resolve FTC Antitrust Dispute Regarding Rental Listings Collaboration

The FTC and Zillow have reached a settlement regarding allegations that a 2025 partnership between Zillow and Redfin breached antitrust laws. The FTC claimed that Zillow had agreed to compensate Redfin for syndicating its listings, while Redfin would terminate its own advertising contracts and refrain from competing with Zillow for multifamily listings.

Under the terms of the settlement, Redfin is permitted to continue syndicating rental listings from Zillow without the restrictive conditions of the original agreement. However, it is also mandated to revive its own rental listings advertising business, which it had scaled back as part of the partnership.

Daniel Guarnera, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, stated that the settlement provides “better, quicker, more certain results for both renters and property management companies than we would have been able to achieve after prevailing at trial.” Additionally, state attorneys general from Arizona, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, and Washington have also endorsed the proposed settlement.

This resolution comes on the heels of other recent settlements from the previous administration involving notable cases of corporate misconduct, such as the Live Nation-Ticketmaster situation and the case against Realpage.
