Spider-Man: Brand New Day Breaks Records, Surpassing Avengers: Endgame

Seven years back, the Avengers took down Thanos, saved half the universe, and turned Avengers: Endgame into a massive $858.3 million domestic hit. Now, a certain web-slinger in red-and-blue spandex is stepping up to challenge that legacy.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has raked in $3.4 million as of its fourth Monday, pushing its domestic total to $858.4 million and placing it just ahead of Endgame in the all-time domestic box office rankings.

The film is on track to hit $900 million domestically, a milestone only Star Wars: The Force Awakens has previously approached. It’s about $41.6 million shy of that mark and roughly $78 million behind The Force Awakens’s $936.7 million domestic record.

This would be an incredible achievement for any film, but Brand New Day has been breaking records since its opening weekend. Its $360 million domestic debut shattered Endgame’s record for the biggest opening weekend ever in North America. The movie also crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide in under three weeks, making it the second-fastest film to do so, right behind — you guessed it — Endgame. It’s now one of only eight films to join the $2 billion club.

As of its fourth weekend, Brand New Day has grossed around $2.22 billion globally, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. It has surpassed Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the global charts and is closing in on Titanic and Avatar: The Way of Water.

While some may talk about Marvel fatigue and the buzz around the MCU may not be as loud as it once was, audiences are still flocking to Marvel stories.

The film does more than just dominate the box office; it also introduces Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey as the first X-Man in the MCU’s main timeline. Instead of portraying Jean as the familiar compassionate hero from past adaptations, Brand New Day starts her journey with her as a dangerous, unstable antagonist, leaving the door open for the MCU to eventually transform her into a hero.

The next big test comes on December 18, when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, this film will unite Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men characters to confront a multiversal threat.

Doomsday will be a significant test of whether Marvel can turn its expansive Multiverse Saga into another must-see event. Recent analyses have suggested that the franchise no longer generates the all-consuming hype it did leading up to Infinity War and Endgame.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of time to catch up. Disney+ has rolled out a 15-film “Countdown to Doomsday” watch list, providing fans with a more manageable path through the increasingly complex MCU multiverse. The list kicks off with X-Men from 2000, introducing the Fox-era versions of Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, and Mystique, and wraps up with 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will showcase Marvel’s latest take on the Fantastic Four and offer an early look at Doctor Doom.
