Upcoming Game of Thrones Game Puts Players in Control of the Iron Throne’s Fate

The battle for Westeros is about to take a thrilling turn. During the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live, PlaySide Studios unveiled the first gameplay trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, showcasing the fierce competition among the Seven Kingdoms as they vie for the Iron Throne.

In this newly revealed gameplay footage, PlaySide’s real-time strategy game aims to captivate both Game of Thrones enthusiasts and fans of classic titles like Warcraft 3 and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth. Players will lead iconic heroes into intense battles, striving to seize control of castles and territories.

War for Westeros allows players to command several well-known factions, including House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King’s White Walkers, as they aim to dominate the Seven Kingdoms and determine who will ultimately claim the Iron Throne. Each faction will be led by playable heroes such as Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Ghost, Grey Wind, Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King, each equipped with unique abilities.

“To achieve victory, players must embrace the role of a commander, making crucial decisions regarding unit training, resource management, building construction, and territory acquisition from rival factions,” PlaySide explained. “Each faction presents asymmetric strategies, featuring distinct armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles that reflect their identities within the Game of Thrones universe. Players will need to leverage these unique strengths, deploy formidable heroes, and adapt their tactics to outsmart and overpower their foes.”

Ultimately, players will have the opportunity to alter the course of Game of Thrones events in War for Westeros, so if you’ve ever wanted to rewrite Jaime Lannister’s fate for the better, this is your moment.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is set to launch in early 2027 for Windows PC via Steam.

For fans who have wrapped up House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, there’s plenty to be excited about.
