Dungeons & Dragons’ Warlock Returns with Exciting New Gameplay Trailer
The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons game received an extensive gameplay reveal during Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing much more than the brief teaser from last year’s The Game Awards. Titled Warlock, this action-adventure title from Invoke Studios is set to launch in 2027 for consoles and PC.
The eight-minute gameplay preview positions Warlock as a contender in the action-adventure genre, drawing comparisons to heavyweights like God of War and Dark Souls, particularly with its focus on magic-infused combat.
The debut trailer also introduced a new character named Tasha, voiced by Maggie Robertson, known for her role in Resident Evil Village. Tasha serves as Kaatri’s patron, guiding her in harnessing Raw Magic—an energy hidden throughout Darkon that enhances her magical abilities, according to the studio.
Warlock is an original, third-person, single-player action-adventure game set in a dark fantasy open world inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Players will take on the role of Kaatri, a seasoned warrior who forges a pact to wield otherworldly magic against sinister forces. Kaatri is voiced by Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica, drawing inspiration from characters like Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road and Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful, particularly for her unique and unconventional magic, as noted by Jeff Hattem, VP of creative at Invoke.
Invoke Studios is made up of experienced developers from Tuque Games, which was founded in 2012 and later acquired by Wizards of the Coast as part of their expansion into AAA game development. The studio previously worked on the polarizing action brawler Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance. With Warlock, they are focusing on refining gameplay and narrative, centering on a single-class fantasy and introducing a fresh character.
Warlock is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
