The Witcher 3 is set to receive a free remaster featuring enhanced combat and stunning new visuals.
While The Witcher 3 is often celebrated as one of the greatest games of the century, if not all time, it does have its share of gameplay issues. CD Projekt Red is stepping up to tackle these shortcomings and enhance the visual experience with the newly announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. The best part? It’s a free upgrade for existing owners of the game.
The remaster’s trailer showcases significant graphical enhancements that bring a vibrant new look to the game, along with the introduction of a photo mode. In addition to the visual upgrades, the remaster includes a comprehensive list of gameplay improvements. Combat, which was arguably the weakest aspect of the original, has been reworked. Enemies now feature “enhanced monster behaviors,” and new finisher animations have been added. Traversal has also seen improvements, with Geralt now able to climb over fences and scale ladders more fluidly. The horse riding mechanics have been refined, allowing Geralt to lean in his saddle to dodge trees.
Moreover, the skill tree has been overhauled, and item management has been revamped. Players will see Geralt sporting stylish armor thanks to the new transmogrification feature, which allows for a different visual appearance from the armor that affects stats.
Additionally, those who own the base version of The Witcher 3 will have access to its acclaimed expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no extra cost. CD Projekt Red is clearly eager to bring as many players as possible into The Witcher universe ahead of their major upcoming releases.
In 2027, the studio plans to launch The Witcher 3 — Songs of the Past, a significant new expansion. Following that, The Witcher 4 is set to arrive in 2028. With the remaster releasing on September 29 and all the exciting content on the horizon, there will be plenty of reasons to dive back into Gwent in the near future.
