Activision revives nostalgia with 39 classic game re-releases.
In a surprising twist for the physical gaming scene, two iconic names are joining forces: Atari and Activision are set to revive some of the Atari 2600’s legendary titles. The Atari x Activision Collection will feature 39 of Activision’s classic games, all available on authentic cartridges that work with the original Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 consoles.
If you’re aiming to snag the entire collection, be ready to shell out nearly $1,000.
Before Activision became synonymous with franchises like Call of Duty, it was born from the creative minds of former Atari employees, crafting memorable titles for the Atari 2600. Games like Pitfall! and River Raid helped define the console’s legacy. However, as time passed and especially after its acquisition by Microsoft in 2023, Activision drifted away from its roots. This collaboration marks a significant return to that rich history, bringing long-lost classics back into the spotlight.
The cartridges in the Atari x Activision Collection are designed to be compatible with both vintage consoles and the modern Atari 2600+ and Atari 7800+ systems. A dozen of the 39 games will be available as Standard Edition cartridges for $34.99 each. Titles like Pitfall!, River Raid, Megamania, and Enduro will be up for grabs individually in November, while The Activision Decathlon and Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns will be released later.
For those looking to complete their collection, things get a bit more intricate and costly. The remaining classic Activision titles will only be available in Deluxe Box Sets, with four sets in total, each containing between nine and ten games. Each set will retail for $249.99 and will ship at staggered times. Here’s how it breaks down:
For the ultimate collector, there’s the Complete Collection option, which includes all four box sets and an undisclosed collector’s item, priced at an eye-watering $999.96.
Preorders for the Standard Edition cartridges, the Treasure Collection, and the Complete Collection are currently available on Atari’s website.
