Talented screen actor, voice performer, and all-around cool guy Tim Curry has passed away at the age of 80.
On August 26, news of Curry’s death emerged, with sources indicating that he had been battling multiple health issues for several years. He died late Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles, California, with police responding around midnight. Authorities have confirmed that no foul play is suspected.
Curry is perhaps best known for his iconic role as the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, his career spanned a wide range of mediums, including television, film, animation, and even video games. After suffering a major stroke in 2012, which left him unable to walk and required brain surgery, Curry took on fewer roles in his later years but still made memorable appearances, including in the Fox remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In the realm of video games, one of his standout performances was as Premier Anatoly Cherdenko in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, released in 2008. His presence in the live-action cutscenes was always a highlight, showcasing his unique charisma.
One particular moment from the game has become a viral sensation, featuring Curry’s character declaring that players will escape to the one place untouched by capitalism: space! His delivery, filled with his signature quirky energy, has made this line a beloved meme among fans.
Curry also lent his voice to characters in Dragon Age and famously portrayed the main character in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father and Gabriel Knight 3. He never married and had no children.
