Ryan Gosling Channels His Barbie Magic to Revive The Flintstones in an Unexpected Twist
Ryan Gosling has been on a roll lately. He took the lead in the sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary earlier this year and is set to venture into a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Starfighter in 2027. Following that, he’ll make his much-anticipated debut in the MCU as Ghost Rider in 2028, teaming up again with Starfighter director Shawn Levy. As if that wasn’t enough, Gosling has another intriguing project in the works: a reboot of The Flintstones.
Gosling’s production company, Open Invite, is collaborating with Warner Bros. on a live-action Flintstones reboot that focuses on an adult Bamm-Bamm, as reported. Currently, Gosling and his Open Invite partner, Jessie Henderson, are on the hunt for a writer to bring this project to life. Later this year, Open Invite will also debut the romantic drama Love of Your Life at the Toronto International Film Festival, featuring a cast that includes Margaret Qualley, Aaron Pierre, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Bamm-Bamm first made his appearance as a baby in the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon, where he was the young son of Barney and Betty Rubble. He was portrayed as a teenager in The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show during the 1970s, where he formed a band with his sister Pebbles. Bamm-Bamm also had a role in the 1994 live-action Flintstones film.
Since Gosling’s project is still in the early stages, details about the casting for Bamm-Bamm or the storyline remain under wraps. A key question is whether Gosling will take on any role beyond producing. Given his standout performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, he seems like a natural fit for Bamm-Bamm. However, with his packed schedule, he might be hesitant to add another project to his plate.
There’s also the potential for a Barbie sequel. Warner Bros. would likely prioritize Gosling’s return to Barbie over the Flintstones reboot, especially since the former is the studio’s highest-grossing film.
