PlayStation Plus Unveils September 2026 Free Games, Featuring a Classic Retro RPG

On Wednesday, the next lineup of free Essential games for PlayStation Plus subscribers was unveiled. As usual, there’s a diverse selection to cater to various tastes: September 2026 features Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Wobbly Life, and MLB The Show 26. You can start downloading these titles on September 1.

Chained Echoes is a 16-bit turn-based RPG released in 2022, set in a vibrant world filled with magical creatures and massive mechs. If you’ve ever wanted to witness a Gundam take on a dragon, this game is for you. Developer Umami Tiger (Matthias Linda) describes it as “a story-driven JRPG where a group of heroes travels across the expansive continent of Valandis to end the war among its three kingdoms.” Expect a solid 30-40 hours of gameplay, with all enemies visible on the map, eliminating the frustration of random encounters.

The latest installment in the Sniper Elite series, Sniper Elite: Resistance, takes players back to World War II to take down Nazis. This game runs parallel to Sniper Elite 5 but focuses on the French Resistance. The official description highlights its “unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth, and tactical third-person combat,” as it delves into a hidden war deep within occupied France. Fans can look forward to the series’ signature X-ray kill cam, showcasing dramatic slow-motion shots of enemies meeting their demise.

For a lighter experience, Wobbly Life offers a colorful, chaotic playground. Developer RubberBandGames describes it as “a vibrant open-world physics sandbox” where you can team up with friends online or in local co-op, engaging in fun jobs, mini-games, and quirky story missions. With nearly 18,000 Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, Wobbly Life is perfect for those looking to unwind after intense gaming sessions.

MLB The Show 26, which launched in March, is touted as “the most immersive MLB The Show yet.” In the Road to the Show mode, you’ll guide your created player from high school through college (featuring 11 new college teams) before making it to the big leagues. Build your ultimate team in Diamond Dynasty, now with a new Red Diamond player tier. Plus, with your PlayStation Plus membership, you can snag the Jump Start Bundle, which includes five The Show Packs, one Equipment Pack, and the Jumpstart Choice Pack to help kickstart your player and Diamond Dynasty squad.

Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Wobbly Life, and MLB The Show 26 will be available until October 5. Don’t forget, you can still grab August’s free PlayStation Plus Essential games—Big Walk, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, and Signalis—until August 31.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the entry-level tier of Sony’s subscription service, providing online multiplayer access, a monthly selection of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. The subscription costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for three months, or $10.99 monthly, following a price increase across all tiers in May.
