Lego Launches Impressive 6,130-Piece Star Wars Set Inspired by The Empire Strikes Back
When it comes to Star Wars, Lego knows how to make a statement. Among their largest sets, three are from the Star Wars universe: the colossal Lego Death Star, boasting an impressive 9,023 pieces, takes the crown for size. It’s followed closely by the 7,541-piece Lego Millennium Falcon and the 6,785-piece Lego AT-AT. Now, a new contender has entered the arena: the Lego Star Wars Executor Super Star Destroyer, officially unveiled recently.
With a build comprising 6,130 pieces, the Lego Star Wars Executor Super Star Destroyer may not surpass the other massive sets, but it does achieve a notable milestone. It is now recognized as “the longest Lego Star Wars brick-built model to date,” according to the company.
This set is inspired by the famously elongated flagship of Darth Vader from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. In the Star Wars universe, Vader’s Star Destroyer measures a staggering 19,000 meters, while the Lego version stretches to an impressive 53.5 inches (136 cm) in length. To accomplish this, the design team utilized a “Lego System core with slender Lego Technic outriggers that anchor the exterior panels, providing strength without adding bulk.”
Lego highlights another intriguing design aspect of the set:
At the core of this model is a commitment to authenticity and detail, featuring dense central greebling paired with sleek side panels. Among the 6,130 pieces, there’s a newly designed decorated tile graphic used 60 times to replicate the tiny hull lights and central detailing. This graphic is versatile, working across various orientations and overlaps, allowing the repeated tiles to appear as organic “random lights.” Controlled inversions are employed to change building orientation during assembly, showcasing both stud and tube sides for enhanced detailing on the center spine and underside.
The Lego Star Wars Executor Super Star Destroyer set also includes a few smaller ships for scale, such as a standard Star Destroyer, which looks tiny next to its larger counterpart. The smaller Star Destroyer even comes with a miniature Millennium Falcon attached to its rear.
This new set, priced at $799.99, features seven Lego minifigures, including Darth Vader. To recreate the iconic bounty hunter scene from The Empire Strikes Back, it also includes all six bounty hunters from the film: Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, IG-88, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss. They can all gather on a minifig-scale Lego version of the Executor bridge.
The official release date for the Executor set is October 1, along with details about a special gift with purchase.
