Filming for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film has officially concluded.

Fans of James Gunn’s DC Universe movies have something to celebrate: filming for the highly anticipated Superman: Man of Tomorrow has officially wrapped. The director took to social media to express his “immense gratitude” to the talented cast and crew involved in the project.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow serves as a sequel to Gunn’s 2025 Superman, featuring David Corenswet in the role of the iconic hero and Nicholas Hoult as the ambitious billionaire Lex Luthor. This film aims to usher in a new era of superhero adventures for DC Comics and Warner Bros. While the first Superman performed well at the box office, the subsequent Supergirl struggled to meet expectations, receiving a lukewarm response from both critics and audiences.

“That’s a wrap on principal photography for Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn shared in his post. “It was truly a joyful experience, and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew. First photo: Nicholas Hoult jumped in the lake after the last shot. Second photo: The brain trust (except Brian) around video village during the whole shoot. They make making movies fun.”

Filming for Man of Tomorrow progressed quickly, with Gunn announcing the start of production on April 20. The storyline will see Superman and Luthor joining forces to confront a new threat, likely the alien super-AI Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), who has a complicated history with both Luthor and Superman’s cousin, Kara (Milly Alcock). Supergirl will be making her return in this installment. Other familiar faces include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. This film will also introduce John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), a character fans have come to know from the acclaimed series Lanterns, currently airing on HBO.
