Where to Catch the GTA 6 Preview on Netflix
Rockstar Games is gearing up to unveil Grand Theft Auto 6 in a big way. On Thursday, the studio will present an “extended look” at GTA 6 during a Netflix exclusive showcase, which, like much of the game itself, remains shrouded in mystery. So far, only two trailers for GTA 6 have been released, but a wave of leaks has already given fans a sneak peek at what to expect. Whatever Rockstar has planned for the Netflix presentation is sure to be more refined and focused.
For the countless fans eager for a deeper dive into Grand Theft Auto 6, here’s how to catch the showcase and whether it’s worth subscribing to Netflix for an early glimpse of the game.
“Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look” will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. EDT. You can set a reminder on Netflix if you think you might forget. Here’s how that translates to your local time:
According to the Netflix app, “Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look” will run for 26 minutes. Rockstar hasn’t revealed much about what viewers can expect beyond “the next evolution of the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series.” A new preview of the game was shared on Wednesday ahead of the Netflix event.
Your best bet is to hold off for a bit. The Netflix special will be exclusive to the platform for six hours, after which Rockstar plans to release the same footage on YouTube at 9 p.m. EDT on Thursday.
As for Netflix, it doesn’t currently offer free trials, though this may differ by region. If you’re considering subscribing (or resubscribing) to Netflix to catch a glimpse of GTA 6, here’s the current pricing for the streaming service:
Rockstar aims to maximize exposure for Grand Theft Auto 6, and with over 325 million subscribers, Netflix is a prime platform for this. This marks the first time a game of this magnitude has received such a showcase from Netflix, making it a groundbreaking promotional effort. Here’s what Netflix had to say about the collaboration:
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” said Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction series at Netflix. “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
Unless there are further delays — and Rockstar seems quite confident about the release date — Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. No other versions of the game have been announced yet.
Rockstar Games is also setting expectations for Grand Theft Auto 6’s online integration.
