The Witcher 3 Remaster Incorporates Fan-Favorite Mods
CD Projekt Red recently unveiled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered during Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing a host of enhancements including refined combat, smarter monster behaviors, improved traversal mechanics, and significantly upgraded graphics.
In an exciting twist, the studio has confirmed that some of these visual upgrades are sourced from a well-known fan-made mod.
HalkHogan, the mastermind behind The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition, announced that they are collaborating with CD Projekt Red on the remaster. Their contributions will be officially integrated into the game, which is set to launch on September 29 for PC and consoles.
“HDRP will no longer be needed,” HalkHogan shared in an update on Nexus Mods, referring to the mod’s common abbreviation. “My work will be officially available in the game.”
The HD Reworked Project has dedicated years to enhancing The Witcher 3’s visual elements, including textures, models, materials, and shaders. The project boasts thousands of modifications aimed at making the game’s world more detailed, realistic, and aligned with CD Projekt Red’s original artistic vision.
HalkHogan noted that nearly all characters, monsters, animals, vegetation, armor, and equipment for Geralt and Roach have been revamped for the remaster, along with a significant portion of the environment.
This mod has emerged as one of the most notable visual upgrades for The Witcher 3, racking up over 326,000 unique downloads and 1.6 million views on Nexus Mods. With this announcement, players who previously installed the HD Reworked Project will find they no longer need to keep the mod updated once the remaster is released.
The remaster will be available as a free upgrade for current owners and will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Additionally, CD Projekt Red teased The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion featuring Geralt, which is slated for release in 2027.
