GTA 6 Features a Map Three Times Larger Than Red Dead Redemption 2’s
One of the key elements that defines any Grand Theft Auto experience is its setting. The series has transported players to vibrant, fictional locales like San Andreas, Vice City, and Liberty City, each teeming with life, businesses, and iconic landmarks. For Grand Theft Auto 6, the ambition is soaring, as Rockstar is set to unveil its largest playable map to date. Reports indicate that the new Vice City, along with surrounding areas, will be three times larger than the playable space in Red Dead Redemption 2.
This information comes from a recent preview based on discussions with developers at Rockstar.
Red Dead Redemption 2 featured a substantial map, though it was reportedly smaller than that of Grand Theft Auto 5. One analysis suggests that the entire map of Red Dead Redemption 2 spans 43.89 square miles, with a playable area of about 29 square miles. In contrast, GTA 5’s map is estimated to cover around 100 square miles, including a significant portion of the Pacific Ocean. Players have managed to traverse the full map of Red Dead Redemption 2, a journey that takes over three hours.
While Rockstar has yet to officially unveil the complete map for GTA 6, leaks and fan speculation have provided a glimpse of what to expect from Leonida’s expansive terrain. The game will feature ample water areas, allowing players to scuba dive, pilot boats, and even swim alongside dolphins, as revealed in Rockstar’s extended showcase of Grand Theft Auto 6.
All these elements contribute to a game that is projected to take around 80 hours to complete, according to one estimate. The preview mentions that Rob Nelson, head of Rockstar North, finished an “80-hour play-through of the game in February,” which included the main storyline and various optional quests with narrative consequences. Regardless of the time it takes to complete or the distance covered, it’s clear that GTA 6 is shaping up to be a massive and highly anticipated release.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
Leaked maps of Leonida align with recent hints shared in GTA Online.
