A Rockstar developer completed the main story of GTA 6 in 80 hours.
Grand Theft Auto 6 enthusiasts, get ready to clear your schedules! The recent information dump has confirmed that Rockstar’s upcoming open-world title is set to be a time sink like no other.
In a conversation with an outlet, Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, dropped a bombshell that has fans buzzing with excitement. He revealed that he completed the entire game back in February, and even while primarily focusing on the main storyline, it took him a whopping 80 hours. Keep in mind, this is someone who has been deeply involved in the game’s development and knows it inside and out. For average players diving in for the first time, expect to invest even more time to fully experience GTA 6.
Nelson did mention that his playthrough included “some optional goals,” many of which had significant narrative impacts. However, based on what Rockstar showcased in the extended preview, GTA 6 is shaping up to be almost like a life simulator. You can eat, drink, and stay active by engaging in activities like tennis or hitting the gym. There’s plenty to do, from playing pool to kayaking, tearing up the terrain on dirt bikes, or catching some air while skydiving. You could even spend hours just soaking in the world and eavesdropping on NPC conversations.
This is just a glimpse of what’s in store, and while some of these activities were present in Grand Theft Auto 5, the scale of GTA 6 is staggering. With a map three times larger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s hard not to feel both excitement and a bit of apprehension. For context, RDR2 can take around 60 hours to complete without any side distractions.
Rockstar’s ambition to create a game that players will return to for years is clear from the insights shared. While not every real-life interaction is replicated in GTA 6, Nelson assures that there’s enough depth for immersive role-playing. The preview also emphasizes Rockstar’s goal for the game to remain culturally relevant for at least a decade. Nelson even shared a memorable quote reminiscent of Todd Howard’s famous line:
“You can see these vehicles from the top of a skyscraper and then parachute down and see that it’s the actual vehicle you saw there,” he explained. “All these things cascade all the way down.”
GTA 6 is indeed on the horizon, and a select few have had the chance to experience it firsthand.
