26 Minutes of GTA 6 Gameplay: All the Exciting Highlights We Noticed
Today was a major milestone for fans as Rockstar Games unveiled nearly 30 minutes of gameplay for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, still on track for its November 19 launch on Xbox and PS5. Among the exciting footage, we caught some intriguing details, including new wildlife that’s never appeared in a GTA title and hints that GTA 6 will share gameplay mechanics with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Here are 16 cool and interesting tidbits we noticed in the extended gameplay reveal.
It was already hinted that GTA 6 would adopt a style more akin to Red Dead Redemption 2 than previous GTA games, and this gameplay showcase reinforced that notion. Players will interact with characters and animals, including dogs, through a context-sensitive menu that pops up in the lower right corner of the screen, similar to how interactions were handled in RDR 2.
For those concerned about the fun factor in GTA 6, there’s good news: strip clubs are back, and it looks like you can visit them as a couple.
Another detail reminiscent of Red Dead is the inclusion of branded weapons in GTA 6. For instance, we see Jason pick up a shotgun labeled “Moreland 850 Shotgun.”
As Jason and Lucia make their escape from an apartment early in the gameplay, we notice that after taking down an enemy, the reticle flashes red. Interestingly, it also flashes yellow during the fight, suggesting a system that allows players to incapacitate foes without necessarily killing them.
Later, we see Jason slow down time to aim at an enemy, with different body parts highlighted in red and yellow, further indicating that players can choose non-lethal options in certain firefights.
Throughout the gameplay, Jason and Lucia visibly sweat while engaging in various activities like weightlifting, dancing, and shooting.
In previous GTA titles, stealing a car was a straightforward task. However, in GTA 6, the process is more complex. Players will need to pick locks and complete a mini-game to steal vehicles. Additionally, some cars will have trackers, while others will require key fob cloning.
While exploring Lucia’s apartment, a pop-up suggests that players can turn lights on and off. We also see Jason checking the fridge for food and drinks, indicating that GTA 6 will offer numerous small interactions with the environment.
Unlike earlier GTA games that featured a 2D radar, GTA 6 appears to have a mini-map with 3D buildings, enhancing navigation in vertical spaces and adding a visually appealing element.
Familiar brands make a return in GTA 6. In Jason’s fridge, we spot cans of Sprunk and eCola, which have appeared in previous titles like GTA IV. We also see an armored vehicle from Gruppe-Sechs, a security firm featured in GTA V, along with a logo for Fleeca, a credit card and banking company first introduced in GTA V and GTA Online.
One charming detail is that Jason and Lucia can hold hands while spending time together, likely dependent on their romantic relationship, which players can influence during gameplay.
The extended look also showcases various wildlife, including two feisty birds squabbling on a sidewalk and a pod of manatees gliding through the swamps of Leonida.
At one point, Jason leaps off a pier into stunning water, performing a backflip mid-air. This appears to be a gameplay moment rather than a cutscene. Will players be able to pull off backflips at will? This could lead to some entertaining moments.
Before robbing a store, players can use a weapon wheel to switch to a different wheel filled with clothing and accessories, allowing them to don a mask on the fly, similar to mechanics in RDR2.
During a brief clip, I noticed a goth woman wearing a Lovefist T-shirt while chatting with Lucia. It’s great to see that Lovefist, a band from the 3D-era GTA games like Vice City, is still making appearances in GTA 6.
In the final moments of the extended look, we see Lucia and Jason texting each other, and she has a custom emoji avatar, adding a modern touch to their interactions.
