GTA 6 Fans Believe They’ve Identified a Returning Character, Highlighting the Game’s Graphics Upgrade from GTA 5

The recent 30-minute gameplay reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6, which premiered on Netflix and is now available on YouTube, showcased a wealth of new content and insights into Rockstar’s highly anticipated title. Among the revelations is the first confirmed returning character from a previous GTA installment, though you might not recall this character even if you’ve played GTA Online.

In the closing moments of the GTA 6 Extended Look trailer, we see Jason and Lucia taking on roles as bodyguards (and babysitters) for a wealthy young man and his entourage. The woman who hires them is called “Val” by Lucia during their airport meeting. Later, as they greet the rich guy stepping off his plane, he refers to her as “Tina” and embraces her. This suggests her full name is Valentina, which matches a character from GTA Online who also serves as a coordinator for affluent clients.

As noted by various sources, this appears to be the same Valentina introduced in the Money Fronts update of Grand Theft Auto Online, released in 2025.

Valentina is the first character from GTA Online confirmed to return in GTA 6.

What supports the idea that these are indeed the same Valentina? In both GTA Online and GTA 6, she sports elegant attire, a golden necklace, and has moles in identical spots on her face. The advancements in graphics mean Valentina in GTA 6 looks significantly more lifelike compared to her GTA Online counterpart, which was created using technology from the Xbox 360 era. However, the shared name, similar appearance, and minor details like facial moles, along with their comparable roles, strongly indicate that they are intended to be the same character.

You might be curious about Valentina’s role in GTA Online. She appeared in a cutscene where she introduced your character to a wealthy individual named Mr. Faber, who had work for you, and then she promptly left San Andreas the following day. Not the most unforgettable character, but still a part of the GTA universe.

Valentina is now the first known returning character in GTA 6. However, some fans might shout, “What about Phil Cassidy?!” Indeed, a character resembling Phil, who appeared in GTA 3, Vice City, and other 3D-era games, can be spotted briefly in GTA 6’s second trailer. But it’s important to note that the universes of GTA are distinct. Characters from the 2D era cannot appear in 3D-era games, and similarly, 3D-era characters like Phil cannot transition into HD-era games like GTA 6.

Some characters, such as radio host Lazlow, exist across different GTA universes, but Rockstar treats them as separate entities with similar names, appearances, and professions. It’s a quirky aspect of the series, but that’s how it operates. Therefore, Phil doesn’t count as a returning character; he’s simply a new iteration of an older character making his debut in the HD universe. Does that all make sense?

Regardless, I doubt Valentina will be the only familiar face in GTA 6. In GTA 5, characters like Packie and Brucie made appearances in both GTA 5 and GTA Online. I’d wager that we’ll see more characters from GTA 4 and 5 in GTA 6, either through cameos or more significant roles in the storyline. We’ll discover who returns when GTA 6 launches in November.
