Pokémon’s Stunning New Animated Series Debuts on Disney Plus

Disney and Pokémon are joining forces for an exciting new streaming series set to launch on Disney Plus in 2027. The stop-motion animated adventure, titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, was announced recently, with plans for it to air on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney Plus. A fresh trailer for the series was unveiled during the Pokémon XP event in San Francisco.

This new series is part of a broader initiative to bring more Pokémon content to Disney Plus.

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is being developed by Aardman Animations, the creative minds behind beloved titles like Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep. The show will follow the adventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they explore the Galar region from Pokémon Sword and Shield, embarking on heroic and heartwarming quests. Here’s a glimpse of the official synopsis:

In “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,” our heroes set off on an epic journey through the Galar Region. Their mission is to assist and safeguard Pokémon throughout the land. Although their plans often go awry, their noble actions strengthen their bond as they bravely face the unknown, encountering danger, forming alliances, dealing with rivalries, discovering extraordinary Pokémon, and sharing plenty of laughs along the way.

The collaboration between Aardman and Pokémon was first revealed in 2024. Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Combining Pokémon, the world’s largest entertainment brand, with our passion for craftsmanship, character, and comedic storytelling is incredibly thrilling. Aardman and Pokémon share a commitment to heritage and detail, always prioritizing our fans and audiences, which will guide us in creating charming, original stories for viewers worldwide.”

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is set to premiere on Disney XD and stream on Disney Plus in 2027.

Additionally, the classic Pokémon anime, Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, is now available on Disney Plus in the U.S. and select international markets. Season 1 of the Pokémon anime series is streaming on Disney Plus, with later seasons accessible via Hulu, including Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon (season 20), Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures (season 21), and Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Legends (season 22).
