The Witcher 3 Remaster Will Include a Key Player-Centric Feature

Over ten years since its debut, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to stand tall as one of the premier RPGs in the gaming world. However, its age does come with a few quirks, even though it runs smoothly on most modern systems. To revitalize the experience, a remaster was announced at Gamescom, promising not just a visual upgrade but also a crucial new feature.

Since the announcement, the developer has been inundated with inquiries about the remaster. In a post on social media, they shared some thrilling news: “Good news: your current saves will work with the upgrade, so you can get back on the Path right where you left off.” Additionally, players can expect that previously unlocked achievements and trophies will carry over, meaning those who have invested countless hours into Geralt’s journey won’t have to start anew when the remaster drops on September 29.

While the ability to transfer saves might seem minor, it’s becoming increasingly uncommon in modern re-releases. Earlier this year, another company revealed Switch 2 versions of several titles that lack an upgrade path or save compatibility for players of the original Switch versions. Thus, while the save transfer feature may not be as flashy as the remaster’s enhanced graphics and revamped combat, it holds significant value. The developer confirmed that the remaster will be a free upgrade for existing owners, with the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions also available at no cost.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered arrives just months ahead of a brand-new expansion for the beloved RPG. Titled Songs of the Past, this expansion is set to launch next year, making the remaster an ideal way for both returning and new players to immerse themselves in the world before embarking on the new adventure. Looking further ahead, the studio has plans for The Witcher 4 in 2028, promising an exciting couple of years for fans of the franchise.

Additionally, the studio has hinted at “a surprise or two” for Gamescom.
