Shelly Launches $50 Subscription-Free Security Camera for Home Monitoring
After recently introducing an affordable flood sensor with impressive battery life, Shelly has unveiled a new security camera priced at $49.99. This camera can operate without any subscription fees, although subscribing is an option for those looking to enhance its features.
The Shelly Camera will soon be available in black or white through the company’s online store and various retailers. While competitors like Wyze have launched 2K security cameras for around $40, Shelly’s debut camera is capped at 1080P. It boasts a wide field of view, offering 110 degrees horizontally and 70 degrees vertically, along with night vision capabilities. However, it does not have a built-in battery, so you’ll need to run a USB-C cable for power during installation.
When used without a subscription, the camera can livestream video over Wi-Fi to multiple devices, record events locally on a microSD card, and trigger smart home automations with other Shelly devices, such as activating a floodlight upon detecting movement. If you choose to subscribe, you’ll unlock cloud recording and smart object detection features that can differentiate between people, pets, and vehicles, allowing for tailored alerts and automations based on specific situations.
