GTA 6 Preview Surprises Rockstar with Unprecedented Insight

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to introduce a groundbreaking non-playable character system, touted as the most intricate simulation in the franchise’s history. Despite a staggering billion-dollar budget, there are limits to what even a powerhouse like Rockstar can implement. With such an extensive development timeline, one might expect the team to have seen everything the open-world game has to offer. However, a recent two-hour preview indicated that GTA 6 is packed with so much new content that even the developers are taken aback by its depth.

Italian influencer MikeShowSha recently released a 26-minute video summarizing a detailed off-hands preview of GTA 6, revealing a wealth of new information. Among the highlights is the revelation that stolen cash can be marked and must be laundered, while car crashes are entirely dynamic. MikeShowSha also pointed out that escaping a six-star Wanted level is incredibly challenging due to the highly responsive police AI.

One of the most intriguing insights from the preview comes around the 21-minute mark, where MikeShowSha describes a random event he encountered that the entire team had never seen during their extensive testing. He recounted a moment while exploring the world when he stumbled upon two women in ski masks in the midst of a botched jewelry heist. With alarms blaring and the duo panicking over an inaccessible safe, players have the option to intervene, assist in the robbery, or simply walk away.

Earlier leaks hinted at the vast amount of dialogue recorded for NPCs, with claims from a former audio team member suggesting that Rockstar had captured an impressive array of lines for various scenarios and emotional tones. The goal was to create a world so rich that players could stand in one spot for at least 20 minutes without hearing the same dialogue or witnessing a repeated event.

MikeShowSha’s preview adds weight to these claims, showcasing a game so filled with content that even the developers can spend long sessions without exhausting its offerings. The preview also suggested that Rockstar is fine-tuning the game right up to its release. For instance, during gameplay, an NPC delivers a car, then rides off on an electric scooter. A Rockstar representative noticed that the co-protagonist, Jason, failed to thank the NPC and instructed the team to address it. The YouTuber also mentioned that they encountered no bugs during their session, indicating that Rockstar is actively refining details as they progress.

This level of complexity explains why it would take even a Rockstar developer around 80 hours to complete the main story without delving into optional content. The map in GTA 6 is significantly larger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2, with every NPC meticulously crafted, featuring extensive dialogue, potential events, and hundreds of thousands of animations.

GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
