The Witcher 3 Remastered Promises a Major Overhaul: “It’s Like a 2.0 Upgrade”
Fans of The Witcher 3 are in for a treat with the upcoming remaster, which promises to enhance the game without wiping save data or progress on trophies and achievements. This isn’t just a simple visual upgrade; the remaster is set to revamp everything from horseback riding to the photo mode, introducing a plethora of new features. To grasp the scale of these changes, think of it as The Witcher 3 2.0.
According to a developer, the most significant criticism of The Witcher 3 has been its gameplay, which many feel has become outdated. This remaster aims to address those concerns head-on.
The developer elaborated that after working on the update for Cyberpunk, they approached this remaster as a comprehensive overhaul for The Witcher 3. They applied design principles from Cyberpunk’s engine to enhance the gameplay experience. Key issues like exploration, Geralt’s movement, and the absence of finisher attacks have all been improved, resulting in a more fluid and enjoyable gameplay experience.
The success of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Expansion was not just due to performance boosts but also the fundamental changes that made combat more engaging. The last major update for The Witcher 3 primarily focused on visual enhancements for newer consoles, while the remaster aims to make deeper improvements to the overall experience, including new features that will accompany the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion.
The developer noted that in the original game, different builds relied too heavily on passive skills. The remaster will introduce a wider array of active abilities, making combat more interactive and allowing players to feel the impact of their choices through new moves and synergies. Additionally, new tools like the iron chain, which has been referenced in the books and iconic scenes, will finally be integrated into the combat system.
Much like the enhancements seen in Cyberpunk 2077’s overhaul, the majority of the improvements coming to The Witcher 3 will be available as a free upgrade in October. While it can be daunting to relearn combat mechanics and skill trees, the excitement surrounding The Witcher 3 makes it a welcome challenge.
