Until Dawn, the beloved horror series for PlayStation, is making a comeback this January.

The anticipation for the sequel to the 2015 cult classic horror game is nearly at an end. During a recent showcase, it was revealed that the follow-up, set to be titled Until Dawn 2, will launch on January 28, 2027, and it promises a thrilling blend of horror and campy fun.

A new trailer was unveiled, showcasing the series’ hallmark of choice-driven scares. One standout moment features Mina (voiced by Camilla Senna) faced with the decision to “Sacrifice rooster” or “Slash palm.” This quirky choice alone makes Until Dawn 2 a must-play in 2027; how many games let you choose to “Sacrifice rooster”? The trailer also depicts another character opting to traverse a precarious rope bridge, only to meet a gruesome end when it gives way.

The story of Until Dawn 2 centers around the cast of Dead True, a ghost-hunting YouTube show, as they chase fame and viral moments. While their previous scares were staged, this new adventure thrusts them into genuine terror as they fight for survival on a remote island. The game features a talented cast, including Dacre Montgomery (known from Stranger Things and Power Rangers) and Neil Newbon (who voices Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3).

Firesprite Games, the studio behind Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence, is developing Until Dawn 2. The original Until Dawn was crafted by Supermassive Games, which has since expanded the interactive horror genre with the Dark Pictures Anthology series and the spiritual successor, The Quarry. A recent blog post also disclosed that AdHoc Studio, known for Dispatch, is collaborating with Firesprite to create a “deeply layered story filled with rich characters, sharp dialogue, complex relationships, tough choices, and, of course, plenty of gruesome deaths.”

An intriguing detail from the latest trailer indicates that the Dead True cast will visit Blackwood Sanatorium to film an episode about tragic events that transpired 12 years prior. Fans of Until Dawn will recognize Blackwood as the original game’s setting. The trailer even features a wendigo, one of the original game’s terrifying creatures, attacking the Dead True team. This hints at potential deeper connections between Until Dawn 2 and its predecessor.

Mark your calendars for January 28, 2027, when Until Dawn 2 will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5. If you weren’t a fan the first time around, it might be worth giving it another shot.
