Final Fantasy 7 expansions featuring two beloved characters announced

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to launch on April 8, 2027, marking the long-awaited conclusion to the FF7 Remake trilogy after a seven-year journey.

However, this release won’t be the definitive end of the remake saga. The developer has also announced that the third installment will feature two story DLCs centered around beloved characters Sephiroth and Vincent Valentine.

The announcement came shortly after the State of Play, with details shared on the official PlayStation Blog regarding Revelation’s edition and pre-order options. The Premium Edition will include the main game along with a Story Expansion Pass. A graphic detailing the Premium Edition’s contents revealed that the Story Expansion Pass will consist of two story DLCs, currently titled “Story DLC 1: Sephiroth” and “Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks.” According to an official press release, both DLCs are expected to launch between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, and they will also be available for separate purchase.

To date, the remake trilogy has only seen one major story DLC, which was Remake’s Episode INTERmission. This chapter, focused on Yuffie, debuted nearly a year after Remake and explored her adventures in Midgar before she joined forces with Cloud and the others. Given the rich backstories of Sephiroth and Vincent, it’s likely that their respective DLCs will introduce fresh narratives rather than revisit established lore.

In a conversation earlier this year, director Naoki Hamaguchi mentioned that any DLC would likely delve into the “untold stories” of the characters. Episode INTERmission’s main quest took about six hours to complete, which could hint at the length of the Revelation story DLCs as well. While the idea of new adventures featuring Vincent and Sephiroth is exciting, some fans may feel let down that Square Enix isn’t taking this chance to reimagine cult classics like the Vincent-centric Dirge of Cerberus. Pricing details for the story DLCs have yet to be announced.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be available on April 8, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

As the release of the remake trilogy’s finale approaches, anticipation continues to build.
