New Fantasy Series from Percy Jackson Creator Coming to Disney Plus
It seems another series inspired by Rick Riordan’s work is on its way to Disney+. A TV adaptation of The Kane Chronicles is currently in the works at the streaming service. Although the show hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, Angela Robinson, known for her work on True Blood and The L Word, will serve as executive producer and writer alongside Riordan. Disney+ has already brought Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians to life, with the third season, which will adapt The Titan’s Curse, set to premiere on November 20, 2026.
Similar to the Percy Jackson series, which draws from Greek mythology, The Kane Chronicles delves into Egyptian mythology. The story follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who are magicians descended from the pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great, as they navigate their interactions with Egyptian deities. The trilogy, consisting of The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow, was published between 2010 and 2012 and exists within the same universe as Percy Jackson.
The show’s premise states: “When their father unleashes the god of chaos and disappears, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can unleash chaos on the modern world.”
Riordan will collaborate once again with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, the executive producer of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Jeremy Bell from the Gotham Group, along with his creative partner and wife, Rebecca Riordan. Previously, Riordan had discussions with Netflix regarding a film adaptation of The Kane Chronicles, but the deal fell through, allowing Disney to take the reins. The Percy Jackson series has performed well for Disney, receiving critical acclaim and winning multiple awards at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards.
The Kane Chronicles will be produced by Angela Robinson’s 20th Television. In addition to her work on True Blood and The L Word, Robinson has directed episodes of Wednesday and written for How to Get Away With Murder. She has also helmed several films, including the 2017 biopic Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. Beyond Percy Jackson and The Kane Chronicles, Riordan is recognized for other series within the same universe, such as The Heroes of Olympus, The Trials of Apollo, and The Nico di Angelo Adventures. He also penned the screenplay for the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
